On Sunday my Nan turned 80… 80! What an impressive milestone and obviously one that so many don’t even reach (as proven to me as I searched endlessly for 80th balloons, candles and decorations!) so of course we had to do something to acknowledge the occasion.
My family and I flew to Coolangatta on Saturday and headed straight to Nan’s retirement village to get her and take her over to the apartment we had booked for the weekend on Palm Beach. We caught up and checked out the complex and surrounding area before my Aunty, Uncle and cousins came over to visit. It turned into a night of stories, games, Chinese takeaway and loads of laughter!
The next day was Nan’s actual birthday so in the morning we wished Nan happy birthday and gave her gifts before heading to the local shopping complex where Nan picked up a few new clothing items and we sneakily sourced a cake. We stopped for a relaxing cup of tea before heading back to the apartment to get ready for lunch. My Aunty, uncle and cousins popped back over to give Nan her gifts, including this amazing chocolate bouquet put together by cousin Leah – talented right!?
Then we headed out to Lunch at the Palm Beach Surf Club. The food was great and the company was wonderful. We ate and chatted and sang happy birthday and enjoyed some cake. Nan really enjoyed herself and was so thankful.
Later we headed back to the Apartment to have a splash in the heated pool before heading in for an early night after all the birthday excitement.
It was a lovely weekend and so great to catch up with family who live so far away! I wish I could have stayed longer!!
