Camp. Week One.

the campers rolled into camp on wednesday afternoon to see all the staff cheering, dancing and singing to celebrate their arrival...

campers were quickly informed which cabin they would be living in and who their counselors are for the summer...

cue running to cabins in order to score the best bunk and start unpacking duffel after duffel of clothing and bedding...

for the other aussies reading this, you would not believe how much stuff the girls pack for camp, its almost as much stuff, possibly even more then most of us packed for a year at uni...

i have 11 campers who are entering 8th grade after the summer...

all have been to camp before and they have a fairly tight friendship group, they are super cute and really nice girls...

i kinda imagined working with younger girls when i signed up for camp, so its different but a lot of fun and i think the better i start get to know the girls the more fun it will get!
thursday was a slow day, with lots of "red tape" to deal with, like infirmary visits, lice checks and swimming tests...

it also rained half the day so i made my first ever camp friendship bracelets...

friday it was still rainy so we watched a movie on the big screen in our hall...

it cleared up in the afternoon and we finally got to start activities...

i was assisting with photography, the radio station and gymnastics...

i loveeeee the gymnastics, the lady running it is awesome and all the girls are so excited that im going to teach them to do back handsprings!

friday night we had a social with a boys camp nearby...

the girls were super excited and everyone wore crazy neon clothes...

we danced our butts off for like 2 hours, totally exhausting but heapssss of fun :)

oh and i got my first mail at camp :) super exciting!!! my favourite author, the beyond amazing, super talented gemma burgess, sent me a copy of the first book in her new series "Brooklyn Girls", which is set for release in early july. keep an eye out for it, gemma is witty, clever, hilarious and her books are totes relatable to real life... love her!

I can't turn the photo around on my tablet :(

Sounds like you're loving camp! I worked at a summer camp with 8th graders too! I expected a lot of catty drama, but with no boys around it was actually a lot of fun! Hope you're having a great summer!
